Our worlds have just been turned upside down.
It almost feels as though I’m living in a movie or a dream. Am I really being told I need to stay in my home and stop working or I could potentially get a new virus medical professionals don’t know too much about? Have all the children really been forced out of school and into a home school learning environment? Pinch me.
I’m still here. This is not a movie. This is no dream. This is my new reality. This is your new reality, too.
We can sit in our homes full of worry, anxiety, and fear. We can troll social media, reading all the doom and gloom, and get sucked into one conspiracy theory after another, while we sit in our daytime PJ’s eating packaged junk food all day, changing into our night time PJ’s and drinking alcohol all night, feeling sorry for ourselves while our pants get tighter and tighter and our thoughts get more and more negative, OR, we can use this time to UPLEVEL, like the BOSSES we are.
So, here we are standing at the corner of Thrive and Survive. For those of you who know anything about me, I choose to THRIVE!
I hope you choose to Thrive, like me. You have the POWER to choose how you spend this time. You have the POWER to choose your thoughts, your actions, and your reactions. For those of you who CHOOSE to be a BOSS, here are some ways to help. As usual, I hope my ideas INSPIRE you.
Stick to a Similar Routine
Naturally, you’re not going to be able to get up and go to your 5 am spin class or your 6 am yoga class, stopping at Starbucks to grab a latte before returning home to shower, have breakfast and be on your merry way. You won’t be able to go into the office and drop your kids off at school, have your 12 pm lunch with a friend or do whatever your usual routine consists of. This is pretty awesome because YOU have the POWER to create a new and similar schedule!
Get up early and move that body! You don’t need a gym membership or a special class and you REALLY DON’T need any EXCUSES. Find something else to do to move your body during that time. YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, etc. all have FREE workout Videos! You can find yoga, belly dancing, pilates, weightlifting, Tai Chi, or probably anything else you’re interested in doing. If that type of thing isn’t your jam, do pushups, sit-ups, squats, run on a treadmill, run on the road, get outside, go for a walk, the possibilities are almost as endless as your excuses.
You’re still going to want a little pick-me-up, have you ever tried putting your coffee in a magic bullet with an egg yolk, or butter or some heavy whipping cream? Forget Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts, everything is better at home anyway.
Craving some friend time? Set up a Zoom call or Marco Polo! See each other’s faces and hear each other’s voices. Go ahead and vent about husbands and children, just take it outside!
If you usually work, set yourself up with an office or create a designated office space, get creative. Same with the children. Make a designated school space for them. Depending on what you do, your needs could be different and if you’re having trouble getting creative, FaceTime a friend or Colleague, OR ME! I’m always available to help, I’m an IDEAS person fo sho!
One thing is for sure, with everyone being cooped up together for an extended period of time, ya’ll will need some separate space! Get busy creating separate spaces in your home and have a designated gathering place. This is such an amazing time to connect with your immediate family! Take advantage of this time.
When You Look Great, You Feel Great
After your workout, shower, put some real clothes on, do your hair and primp yourself as if you were going to the office or to meetings. You’ll feel better all day by doing this. I’m not saying put on a suit or a dress and some heels but be presentable! If you’re self-employed, like me, you’ll be doing webinars, zoom calls, posting on social media ect. and I think you’ll want to be your gorgeous and presentable self for these types of social gatherings, it’s the new norm, after all.
Don’t Forget to Make Lists and Write out your Goals
You still need to shop, to clean, to plan and to delegate! Don’t give up these things! Make some plans and stick to them.
Stay Informed
You can keep up on current events without getting yourself in a tizzy. Look for news from reliable sources and stay away from Facebook doom and gloomers. Unfollow people for your sanity.
This is such a good time to read up on your industry, take continuing education if you need to, take classes online, etc. DO IT.
Remember
Keep your immune system strong by treating your body like a temple, hit pause when you need to and be present and focused for your family and for yourself.
Play some music, dance around the house and celebrate life, like you should have been doing all along.
Drop some comments and tell me how you’re OWNING your time spent at home!
